I saw the high school showcase today, which was equal parts exciting and weird.
There I was, no longer a student, sitting in the audience, watching the show full of people I’ve worked with and unrecognizable freshmen. I felt odd and out of place not having to worry about cues, set changes, mics, and missing actors. I’m no longer a stage-manager. I did not have to walk around with a headset, getting annoyed with the constant antics of the spotters on clear-com. I was in charge of nothing, and all I had to do was watch the show.
Clara was brilliant, along with all of my younger friends. There’s a reason why my high school is known for having phenomenal performing arts. At one point, Clara recognized me in the audience, which was wonderful. I hadn’t told her that I was coming, and seeing her face light up when she saw me would have even made a terrible show worth it. Lily came home from college just to see the show, and I got to hang out a little with Jacob while he was working.
And as always, you can also find me on tumblr at http://emleng93.tumblr.com/, if, you know, you’re into that kind of thing.
