Ella and Noticing Details

I’ve always been fascinated by the way that after you start noticing or thinking about something, you start to see it everywhere, particularly how you can discover these things in things that you’ve thought about or looked at hundreds and hundred of times before.

I found one today.

I was wearing this new cream lace dress I bought a little over a week back, and after around five minutes of staring at my lap, lost in thought I noticed another very small flower in the design. All of a sudden, that flower was the only thing I could see when I looked at the fabric. It popped out like red ink corrections on a essay and nothing else in the pattern seemed to matter anymore.

I really wish that I knew where to look to find some articles about the psychology behind this phenomenon. I’m really not sure what to plug into JSTOR, Wikipedia, or Google.
